What is the key cultural capital in connection with dining out?

As previously noted, Foodies tend to want dining experiences that are authentic, informative, accompanied by a good ambiance and that give them an "experience". Based on these insights, some of the key cultural capital that connects with dining out is noted below.

  • A taste for restaurant experiences that are "authentic".

  • A taste for dishes at restaurants that are something they've never tried before. This allows them more knowledge about themselves and their culinary likes and dislikes.

    • Note: talking about these experiences in trying new foods can be considered habitusas it is an observable behavior revealing one's knowledge of different specialized foods.

  • Knowledge of different cultures gained through restaurant experiences and trying cusines from different parts of the world.

  • Knowledge about the different ways that an ingredient can be prepared.

    • Note: being able to speak about the ways an ingredient can be prepared would be considered habitus, as this would be a display of their cultural capital (knowledge of ingredient preparation).

  • Knowledge of where online to find the best restaurant reviews; many of the Foodies talked about sharing TikToks (they are in the TikTok community that enjoys restaurant recommendations) or knowing about different blogs.

    • Note: sharing these device-driven recommendations about places to eat out can be considered habitus, because sharing these is a behavior driven by their cultural capital (knowledge of where to find the recommendations in the first place).
